Bi-city Youth Cultural Leadership Programme

Organised by the Hong Kong Palace Museum, its flagship Bi-city Youth Cultural Leadership Programme aims to encourage cultural exchange between young people in Hong Kong and Beijing. By broadening their horizons and fostering their creativity, we seek to nurture the next generation of cultural talents in both cities. The Programme is supported by Swire Properties as Lead Sponsor and designed by Ednovators as Programme Partner.

The program offers a blended online and offline learning experience, covering the fundamental study of arts and culture, training in innovative thinking and interdisciplinary talents, as well as providing internship opportunities.

The first year was held from Oct 2022 to Feb 2023. 95 students from Hong Kong and Beijing are recruited (approximately 50 from each city). They interact with each other through a virtual learning platform to complete various creative missions online and offline throughout 8 sessions of curated learning workshops.

In 2023, the programme transitioned from online to physical. 16 students from Beijing and Hong Kong (8 students from each city) participated in a two-month summer exchange programme involving physical exchanges and internships in both cities. Subsequently, these students consolidated their learning and observations, formed teams, and collaborated with 3 different museums in Hong Kong, implementing innovative ideas to address the future needs of cities and museum development.

Inaugural Edition Review

The first year was held from Oct 2022 to Feb 2023. 95 students from Hong Kong and Beijing are recruited (approximately 50 from each city). They interact with each other through a virtual learning platform to complete various creative missions online and offline throughout 8 sessions of curated learning workshops. The 8 Sessions invited cultural and arts innovators to share their experiences in the Museum and Cultural and Arts sectors from China and Hong Kong, besides they interacted with participants and gave them inspiration. Furthermore, participants digest and showcase their learning outcomes in the past months through staged missions, and lastly conducted idea pitching for their imagined future Hong Kong Palace Museum to conclude the programme.

The second cohort has officially launched!

Hong Kong & Beijing | Curated Learning Programme

The programme includes a four-week curated learning programme in Hong Kong and Beijing focusing on cultural heritage, innovation, the creative economy, design thinking, emerging technologies, and related topics. Activities include, but are not limited to, workshops, visits, and tours. Here are some examples.

  • Innovative workshops and master classes: The workshops and master classes will be led by local artists and cultural experts and will include activities and discussions. Participants can establish networks with industry leaders.
  • Visits to cultural, commercial, and educational institutions: Participants will learn about the conservation of arts, history, and culture in different places through visits to different institutions and will deepen their understanding of the values and meanings behind conservation.
  • Community tours: Participants will take part in cultural excursions to learn about the history and recent development of Beijing and Hong Kong and to understand the cultural landscape of each location.

Hong Kong | Internships

In the four-week summer internship at leading museums and cultural organisations in Hong Kong, participants will not only engage with a particular museum or organisation but will also share their experiences, knowledge acquired, and challenges at regular gatherings to consolidate their learning.

Hong Kong & Beijing | Ideas Incubation

The programme will include a future-oriented innovation workshop integrating inspirations drawn from cultural exchange events and site visits. The process will guide participants to explore the needs of the future development of museums and cities with empathy and conclude with innovative proposals. Participants will then propose innovative solutions in response to the project theme at the conclusion of the programme. They will become members of the young cultural talent community with the support through continuous sharing and co-learning.
